Round and round the chant of memory spun in his head until, bouncing against the echoes of its own making, it formed a fevered ring which throbbed mercilessly. Nothing had changed- white scars of rain continued to besiege his facade of windows, and the light which filtered through remained blue, deep, and dusty. All around was the bitter silence of the abandoned, the forsaken, the forgotten. Caius vaguely attempted to retain some piece of himself, a date, an age, a name . . . they inevitably trickled away. Looking hazily toward a photograph which lay close, a familiar smile played indistinctly on his lips; perhaps not everything, Rhea.

Caius Black is a genetically modified Archangel who works for the establishment which created him- the Purist Faction of the United Japanese Federation. Although he is the strongest archetype of all the angels yet to be made, Caius is frustratingly hard to command. He is infamously renowned for taking coffee breaks in the middle of heated battles, and for leaving his post because of poor weather (a spot of rain). He is Mordecai’s main rival, and is often sent on jobs to hunt down the Anti-Purist Resistance which Mordecai works for. However, he is also known to be sympathetic with the Anti-Purist force for unknown reasons. He is a close friend to the Angels Haru, Talbert and Mitsu, who work with him. His girlfriend, Rhea, died a year ago of an unknown cause. It is rumoured that he was implicated in her death, although he will not talk of the matter.
